Background
STAMICO, the ‘Guardian’ of The Artisanal and Small-Scale Miners (ASM) of Tanzania, jointly with ACME, has carried out extensive studies of the ASM areas in the Country over a 12-month duration, under the Auspices of the Ministry of Minerals and Mining Commission to map and quantify the ASM activities in the Country.
The studies carried out in two phases, show that with appropriate support to some of these areas, the country is capable of substantially ramping up production by adopting a strategic and planned approach which includes a combination of :
* Providing direct assistance to ASMs such as:
• Geological support and advice.
• Drilling and tools
• Mining support
• Central Production Facilities.
* Converting some of these areas to large-scale production sites on a profit share arrangement with the registered ASMs of these areas.
